This year 2015, is a special year for Friends of Lalcluta. If you have read our front page you may have noticed that the Friendship Agreement between the Rural City of Wangaratta and sub-district of Lacluta in Timor Leste was signed on 25th Sept 2005. So 25th Sept this year was our 10th Anniversary.

On 26th September 2015 we celebrated, with an Anniversary Dinner in Wangaratta, all that has been done to strengthen this friendship.

Neighbouring Friendship groups, Friends of Venilale, Mansfield Shire and Friends of Atauro, Indigo Shire had celebrations around the same time.

With the anniversary in mind we had engaged a photographer, Stephen Henderson and artist, Jo Briscomb to travel to Timor earlier this year and record aspects of each of the 3 Friendship group’s activities. These beautiful photos and drawings were displayed at the Dinner and at a Gallery in Wangaratta. They were also shown at the Myrtleford UCA Hall.

The dinner on  26th September was a wonderful success and brought together not only   members of 3 Friends groups but also Ambassador Abel Guterres and Hon Consul Rae Kingsbury . Prof Damien Kingsbury, a long time scholar of Timor Leste, was our knowledgable and interesting guest speaker.
