2011 – Two members visited. By this time a real friendship had developed
In Dili we met the first two scholarship holders.
Again, medical clinics were attended in a number of centres and discussions held with the Dilor medical centre manager and doctor about requirements. Some medical equipment from Wangaratta was donated.
With help from local mothers, a kindergarten was established in a community building. Forty children attended, each with a parent. This was a great success and continued after we left run by volunteer mothers.
Schools received Tetum dictionaries, story books, a laptop computer and writing paper.
Consultation re teaching methods, and intervention in a number of Maths and English classes occurred and were welcomed.
Twenty Year 9 students received small encouragement scholarships.
A process was set up with the Senior Secondary Principal, to improve communication re annual scholarship recipients.
Tim Goodson, an engineering student, visited Lacluta and neighbouring areas. When fully qualified he hopes to join Engineers Without Borders and work in East Timor
